NIKON LEADS WIRELESS DIGITAL CAMERA TECHNOLOGY
Analyst Firm Publishes Authoritative Document Citing Nikon’s Wireless Solutions as an Edge in a Digital Imaging World Without Wires
Nikon announced today key findings from IDC, a leading technology analyst, resulting from their white paper titled "The Evolution of Wireless Photography i " concluding: Nikon has been on the forefront of embracing wireless photography. Since the introduction of its first wireless cameras in 2005 to the current COOLPIX S51c digital camera, Nikon has been the worldwide leader in regards to Wi-Fi integration and innovative ways to share memories such as the new my Picturetown, Nikon’s new photo sharing and storage service. Results are based on IDC’s ongoing research on wireless connectivity, digital camera market research and a consumer survey on the adoption of wireless digital cameras and their propensity to embrace the capability in future camera purchases.
With each new digital camera generation, Nikon continues to streamline the photo-sharing process through wireless technology, making it easier than ever to share and send pictures without the confines of wires and cables or even computers! The new white paper from IDC states “To date, Nikon is the only digital camera manufacturer to consistently and fully embrace wireless photography. IDC predicts that other top vendors will seek to catch up and embrace wireless photography as well, spurring industry-wide adoption.”
“As the speed and dependability of wireless networks grow, image quality and ease-of-use in digital cameras continue to build. Nikon’s aim is to give the pioneers and the participants of the new web 2.0 an easy way to share not only their photos, but also their lives,” says Bill Giordano, General Manager of Marketing, COOLPIX for Nikon Inc. “Wireless features have advanced significantly since 2005, with changes that consumers can now embrace and easily understand, especially with the recent introduction of the COOLPIX S51c and my Picturetown.”
So how important is the ability to share? The white paper states that 60 percent of respondents cite that they would be somewhat or much more likely to consider one camera over another should it include wireless connectivity. What’s more, respondents said that they would be willing to pay up to $86 more for a camera with this ability.
Nikon continues to enhance this technology to be user friendly and effective based on the needs of consumers. The IDC survey states that 43 percent of U.S. digital camera owners recognized that wireless connectivity is an important feature in choosing a digital camera, and with good reason. Nikon’s wireless COOLPIX S51c camera allows the user to share the photos and movie clips anywhere there is an open access Wi-Fi hotspot. At home, in the office, in a coffee house, airport, a user can simply press a button and have photos sent to email addresses, published to Web sites, or posted on photo sharing communities such as Flickr or Nikon’s own my Picturetown. Business professionals working in the field, such as real estate and building contractors, can utilize Wi-Fi to send pictures directly to prospective buyers or business partners, quicker and easier than connecting the camera and downloading pictures to a computer before sending the image.
Additionally, Nikon engineers digital cameras to enhance not only image quality, but also the “photo-sharing experience” by partnering with service providers T-Mobile®, allowing the user to send images and videos to my Picturetown from over 8,200 T-Mobile® HotSpots® nationwide* and Flickr®, one of the world’s leading photo sharing communities, to provide consumers with more sharing and viewing options. IDC believes “Nikon's courage in opening its technology is critical for wireless photography to be fully embraced by consumers, and positions the firm well in future consumer mindsets as the manufacturer that helps, rather than hinders, product usage.”

NIKON'S COOLPIX DIGITAL CAMERAS FEATURE INNOVATIVE IMAGE TECHNOLOGIES IN AN EASY TO USE DESIGN
Nikon's New COOLPIX Digital Cameras Allows Users to Capture and Share Photos Just about Anywhere
MELVILLE, NY (August 24, 2006) - Consumers look for the best technology to keep up with their lifestyle. Nikon has consistently developed digital cameras that have connected with consumers needs by providing unsurpassed technology that enhances the picture taking experience. Today, Nikon announced the addition of five new COOLPIX cameras with the consumer in mind.
"Nikon acknowledges that consumer's photography levels vary, which is why the new cameras include a variety of features for every level," says Bill Giordano, General Manager Marketing, COOLPIX for Nikon, Inc. "Each camera in the new line-up includes similar image technologies but with additional features that will allow the user to take great pictures right out of the box. The use of a One-Touch Portrait Button on the outside of the camera makes it easy for beginners to capture great images that they deserve."
Nikon In-Camera Image Innovations for More Satisfying Pictures
Consistent in Nikon's COOLPIX digital cameras is Nikon's In-camera Image Innovations which fix common photo problems. This system includes Face-priority AF*, which can automatically find and focus on a subject's face, In-Camera Red-Eye Fix, which automatically corrects red-eye, and D-Lighting, an innovation that automatically corrects images with insufficient light. The cameras are also equipped with Blur Warning, which alerts the user when an image is blurred and Best Shot Selector, a feature which automatically identifies and saves the sharpest image from a series.
Making it easier than ever to get great-looking pictures, the L5, S7c, S9 and the S10 feature a handy One-Touch Portrait Button that acts as a shortcut to three image innovations; In-Camera Red-Eye Fix, Face-priority AF and D-Lighting. Satisfying shooting is made possible with a choice of 15 Scene modes in all the COOLPIX cameras.
In addition, every new COOLPIX camera features TV Quality Move Mode** function (recording movies at up to 30 fps with sound), Noise Reduction - to produce better results during low-light conditions; a broad choice of White Balance selections and a convenient Help Button, which is never further than a push of a button away, giving easy-to-understand explanations for all functions throughout the menu.
Steady Images Made Possible with Vibration Reduction
Nikon has introduced Vibration Reduction into a selection of the new COOLPIX cameras. Nikon's Vibration Reduction detects camera movement, makes precise automatic in-camera adjustments to produce stunning results with reduced blur. So whether you are panning, shooting in low light, or taking a handheld macro shot, you get a sharper, clearer picture.
Create and Share Pictures Using Pictmotion and Stop-motion Movie
Much more than a slideshow, Pictmotion makes it easy to share the joy of photography with others. Offering entertainment in-camera, it allows users to choose up to 30 images or movies, select one of five soundtracks already in the camera or load new ones to match the mood*, then select a visual style. The COOLPIX S7c and the S10 then produce a show automatically in-camera with pace and transitions set in harmony with the music and style. There's also a new Stop-motion movie function, accessible in the S7c and S9 COOLPIX cameras, that lets users create fun, animated movies. Users simply select objects or models they wish to animate, shoot them, move them, then shoot again. The COOLPIX S7c and S9 then automatically create impressive animated movies in-camera.
Reaching New Heights With Expanded Wi-Fi Capability
With a built-in Wi-Fi that complements the overall attraction of the wave-surface design, the COOLPIX S7c offers the freedom and flexibility of Wireless LAN support (IEEE 802.11b/g). With Wireless transfer, it enables photographers to send pictures from memory to a computer on demand. With Wireless shooting, it lets users transfer each image to the computer as soon as it's shot. Wireless printing sends images wirelessly for printing on a PictBridge-compatible printer***. And with Nikon's exciting new COOLPIX CONNECT service, users can wirelessly upload pictures to the Nikon COOLPIX CONNECT server****. Nikon and T-Mobile™ have partnered to give Nikon customers the amazing ability to email pictures directly from the new COOLPIX S7c. The first time you connect your COOLPIX S7c in one of the 7,000 T-Mobile HotSpot locations, your one year of complimentary T-Mobile Camera Wi-Fi service (for digital cameras) will be automatically activated. Simply turn on your COOLPIX S7c, choose Wi-Fi mode automatically connecting the camera to the T-Mobile Hotspot or open access network, and you can email pictures directly from your COOLPIX S7c. COOLPIX Connect service enables a total of up to 50MB of images to be sent to the server and stored there for up to two weeks. It also sends an email to each specified recipient with a link to the page, allowing users to invite friends and family members to view the images right away, download them to their own computer or enjoy them as a slideshow.
The new COOLPIX camera line-up will be available nationwide September 2006. For more information about this and other COOLPIX cameras, please visit www.nikondigital.com.

The New Face of Photography: Nikon Unveils New Technology That Allows Its Cameras to Find a Face in a Portrait Shot
MELVILLE, N.Y., March 24 -- Common shooting situations have continued to pose unique challenges to casual snap-shooters, like avoiding dark pictures and blurred subjects in portraits. Nikon engineers dared to ask, 'How can we address these issues within the camera?'
The answer is a new suite of Nikon technology designed specifically for the Coolpix line of digital cameras that includes the proprietary Face Priority Auto Focus (AF), In-Camera Red-Eye Fix and the new D-Lighting feature. These technologies work together in conjunction with the camera to make it easier than ever to capture great pictures.
Face Priority Auto Focus Ensures Sharp Portraits
Imagine a camera smart enough to find a face in a scene. Nikon's new Face-Priority AF can do just that when selected using the camera's Portrait Scene Mode. As its name suggests, Face-Priority AF uses technology transparent to the user to actually identify up to three faces within a scene and then sets the camera's focus point accordingly. The function even brackets the faces on the camera's LCD screen and tracks the faces if they move about during composition. With multiple faces, the camera will determine its focus points based on the closest subject within the shot. The bracket shows confirmation once focus is locked and then turns green to prompt the user to take the picture. The result is crisp, sharp portraits at the press of a single button.
"Face Priority AF is a revolutionary step forward for the everyday snap shooter," said Bill Giordano, General Manager of Marketing for Nikon Inc. "This state-of-the-art technology, makes taking beautiful snap shots as easy as turning on the camera, framing the shot and pressing the shutter release. It's really that simple."
In-Camera Red-Eye Fix Says Goodbye to Red Eye
Beyond faces, most Nikon Coolpix cameras can automatically detect and remove red-eye directly within the camera with Nikon's exclusive In-Camera Red-Eye Fix(TM) technology. This elegant solution to common red-eye pictures detects and corrects red eyes in most typical situations without the need to press buttons or select and highlight the eyes in playback. Nikon's red-eye solution is completely transparent to the user and the result is simple - less red-eye photographs straight from the camera.
D-Lighting Addresses and Eliminates Dark Photos
Tricky lighting situations or insufficient flash can sometimes lead to dark photographs. Nikon's new D-Lighting function is a tool to fix problems that occur with excessive backlighting and underexposed images from affecting the quality of the resulting pictures. D-Lighting, selected in Playback, automatically compensates for insufficient flash or excessive back lighting in order to obtain a balanced exposure throughout the frame. After applying D-Lighting, the camera saves the original image and a corrected copy to the camera's internal or removable memory. An application of D-Lighting can literally turn a dark, throwaway shot into a frame-able memory.
A combination of these exclusive and exciting new technologies are available on new Nikon Coolpix digital cameras including the Coolpix 4600, 5600, 5900, 7900 and S1. For more information, please visit http://www.nikondigital.com.
